Below ia a list of guest ales that are waiting in The Woolpack cellar which will be available on our "Free of Tie" Pump.
We are able to offer a number of guest ales through Greene King. We are currently offering the following:–
Abv 4% Amber Ale
Butcombe Bitter is one of Butcombe's permanent ales. A dry, refreshing distinctive ale brewed using Maris Otter malt and pure Mendip spring water.
Butcombe Brewery is based in near Bristol and Bath. They run a small estate of pubs covering diverse markets from city bars to country pubs which all have quality as their core appeal.
Mid–Brown Ale 4.3% abv
Cain's Bonfire Toffee is a full bodied Mid–Brown ale with explosive caramel flavour.
Cain's brewery were established in 1850 and are based in Liverpool. They brew a number of regular ales along with a comprehensive seasonal list. Bonfire Toffee is made available through Greene King's guest list.
Abv 3.9% Golden Ale
Holden's Black Country Bitter is a refreshing golden ale brewed with Maris Otter malt and Fuggles hops.
Holden's Black Country Bitter is a medium bodied ale with a fine balance of hoppiness and fruity malt flavour, a great beer to try.
Abv 3.6% Dark Mild
Elgood's Black Dog is a dark mild that has sweetness and caramel notes along with a little bitterness and roast flavour.
Elgood's are a Cambridge based brewer that brews top quality ales including Greyhound, Golden Newt and Cambridge Ale.
Green King brew a number of Seasonal Ales to suit the time of year. We are currently offering the following:–
Abv 4.5% Full Bodied Dark Ale
Fireside makes a longer appearance this year after a fleeting one last autumn. Fireside is our Brewer's Choice quarterly seasonal and will be available until the end of 2010.
Fireside is a popular and fantastic winter warmer that is late hopped to give a fruity flavour that is mellow and lingers.
Abv 6.5% Dark Brown Ale
Abbot Reserve is Abbot Ale's big brother weighing in at a mighty 6.5% abv. This year's reserve is said to be the best for years and is the perfect ale if you are looking for a winter warmer.
Abbot Reserve will be served up until Christmas and the New Year. Being 6.5% abv Abbot Reserve may be an ale that is taken in moderation but it is worth trying none the less.
Being a Greene King House enables us to offer beers not only from Greene King recipes but also from Ridleys, Hardy & Hansons, Morland and Ruddles.
Abv 5% Full Bodied Ale
Greene King's Abbot Ale is their well known premium real ale. This ale is served straight off of the bar to give the very best taste possible.
Benjamin Greene, the founder of the Greene King Brewery, lived in a house on Crown Street in Bury St Edmunds which was once owned by Abbot Reeve who was the last Abbot of Bury and who Abbot Ale is named after.
Abv 4.3% Mid-Brown Bitter
Hardy & Hanson's Olde Trip is a mid-brown malty ale with plenty of fruit character and a crisp bitter finish.
Olde Trip takes its name from "The Olde Trip to Jerusalem" which claims to be the oldest pub in England. Olde Trip makes regular appearances at The Woolpack and will be with us for the next couple of months.
Abv 4.2% Crisp Golden Ale
St Edmunds is a recent addition to Geene King's stable of beers. Not to be confused with the original bottled St Edmunds brew, which was stronger at 5.5% Abv and has not been brewed for many years, St Edmunds is a golden cask ale that weighs in at 4.2% Abv and proves to be popular with Woolpack regulars.
Although St Edmunds was brewed to be served through a new type of pump developed by Greene King, you will be able to enjoy St Edmunds at the Woolpack served through a traditional hand pump.
Abv 3.9% Mid–Brown Session Ale
Hardy & Hanson's bitter has an excellent balance of sweetness and bitterness that combines with a subtle hop character, a distinctive beer with a full and satisfying finish.
A beer with a flowerly, hoppy and fruity nose, although malt is never far away. Fruity hop is evident in the taste and there is a consistent bitterness.
We offer bottled as well as draught ales. Here are some available for your drinking pleasure.
Abv 6% Full Bodied Ale
Suffolk Strong Vintage Ale is a blend of Old 5X which is an ale brewed to a strength of 12% abv and left to mature in oak barrels for 2 years and BPA which is a dark, full bodied beer added just before bottling.
Suffolk Strong Vintage Ale is a strong (6% abv) beer that is unique, dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special!
Abv 6.5% Premium Bottled Ale
Suffolk Springer is only available in bottled form. It is a full flavoured ruby beer with a powerful fruitcake taste with loads of sultanas, raisins and cherry notes.
Suffolk Springer is a sweeter beer than Suffolk Strong but the flavoured is not cloying or over heavy.
Abv 6.5% Premium Bottled Ale
Old Crafty Hen is a blend of Old 5X and a stronger version of Old Speckled Hen. It has a rich malt flavour with a spicy and peppery note.
Old Crafty Hen is one of a number of premium bottled ales available at The Woolpack. Old Crafty Hen is the perfect ale to finish the evening off with.
Abv 5.1% Premium Bottled Ale
One of Ridley's most famous ales, Greene King has kept Old Bob available in bottled form.
Old Bob is a delicious premium ale that has a wonderful blend of hops that gives spicy citrus fruit flavours which lead into a dried fruit and malt finish.
Often used to pep up a "Light and Bitter", Old Bob is the ale drinkers choice when choosing a bottled ale.
