Below ia a list of guest ales that are waiting in The Woolpack cellar which will be available on our "Free of Tie" Pump.
We are able to offer a number of guest ales through Greene King. We are currently offering the following:–
Abv 4.1% Golden Ale
Holt's Hum Dinger is an award winning refreshing golden beer with a hint of honey.
Holt's was founded in 1849 by Joseph Holt who had been attracted into the brewing trade, working as a carter for Harrison's Starngeways Brewery. He married Catherine Parry in 1849 who proved to have a great business mind, they mortgaged some property and their brewery was born!
Abv 4.2% Mid–Brown Ale
Everards Tiger is a mid–brown beer with a good balance between sweetness and bitterness along with its rounded toffee character.
William Everard first brewed his ale in 1849 and even today Everards is a family run business. His mission statement was "No effort shall be found wanting in the production and supply of genuine ale of first rate quality". Everards originally started brewing in Southgate Street, Leicester, and after moving to Burton in 1892, returned to Leicester in 1979 where the water is now "Burtonised" to give the same taste.
Green King brew a number of Seasonal Ales to suit the time of year. We are currently offering the following:–
Abv 4.2% Golden Ale
LBW is Greene King's summer seasonal beer brewed using a blend of pale and crystal malt with Challenger and First Gold hops.
LBW is available through August as the seasonal choice from the Westgate Brewery.
We will be offering Back of the Net throughout the competition and through to the end of July
Abv 4.2% Golden Ale
Each quarter Greene King offer a Brewer's Choice seasonal ale. Sun Dance is available throughout July, August and October.
Sun Dance is a fine golden ale is brewed using pale malts and Fuggles hops to create a light, refreshing ale with floral and fruity aromas.
Being a Greene King House enables us to offer beers not only from Greene King recipes but also from Ridleys, Hardy & Hansons, Morland and Ruddles.
Abv 5% Full Bodied Ale
Greene King's Abbot Ale is their well known premium real ale. This ale is served straight off of the bar to give the very best taste possible.
Benjamin Greene, the founder of the Greene King Brewery, lived in a house on Crown Street in Bury St Edmunds which was once owned by Abbot Reeve who was the last Abbot of Bury and who Abbot Ale is named after.
Abv 4.2% Crisp Golden Ale
St Edmunds is a recent addition to Geene King's stable of beers. Not to be confused with the original bottled St Edmunds brew, which was stronger at 5.5% Abv and has not been brewed for many years, St Edmunds is a golden cask ale that weighs in at 4.2% Abv and proves to be popular with Woolpack regulars.
Although St Edmunds was brewed to be served through a new type of pump developed by Greene King, you will be able to enjoy St Edmunds at the Woolpack served through a traditional hand pump.
Abv 3.9% Mid–Brown Session Ale
Hardy & Hanson's bitter has an excellent balance of sweetness and bitterness that combines with a subtle hop character, a distinctive beer with a full and satisfying finish.
A beer with a flowerly, hoppy and fruity nose, although malt is never far away. Fruity hop is evident in the taste and there is a consistent bitterness.
We offer bottled as well as draught ales. Here are some available for your drinking pleasure.
Abv 6% Full Bodied Ale
Suffolk Strong Vintage Ale is a blend of Old 5X which is an ale brewed to a strength of 12% abv and left to mature in oak barrels for 2 years and BPA which is a dark, full bodied beer added just before bottling.
Suffolk Strong Vintage Ale is a strong (6% abv) beer that is unique, dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special!
Abv 5.1% Premium Bottled Ale
One of Ridley's most famous ales, Greene King has kept Old Bob available in bottled form.
Old Bob is a delicious premium ale that has a wonderful blend of hops that gives spicy citrus fruit flavours which lead into a dried fruit and malt finish.
Often used to pep up a "Light and Bitter", Old Bob is the ale drinkers choice when choosing a bottled ale.
